Shop Small Business Saturday

"Shop Small Business Saturday" is
THIS Saturday November 30.

https://shopsmallneighborhoods.americanexpress.com/

Don't forget to support your local small businesses.  We may not be Wal#### or Tar### (you know, those big guys!) but we have a lot of heart.   Small businesses are independent and work hard to keep their doors open.  Thank you for being here and supporting us!

Thanksgiving is around the corner (or is that Christmas....sigh).
In another week or two it will be ...

Time to bake the pies and stuff the turkey,
Time to give thanks for all those who have touched our hearts,
Time to remember those who have gone before us,
Time to love those dear to us,
Time to heal,
Time to remember to love harder
Time to forgive faster.

Lay-A-Way for Christmas???

You BET!!

Bring $100 worth or more of items to the front counter and for 25% down we can put it away for layaway.

All layaway must be paid in full by December 23rd and it's yours!

Well the kids are full of their candy, costumes put away....so what's next??

I have resisted the pull of early Christmas on the grounds that I feel we should enjoy one event before being plunged into the next.  Christmas has been spotted in shops and malls for over a month already.  Customers have been asking where is our Christmas displays of goodies.

While going through a grouping of books for the shop, Cheryl found the following poem in Margaret Fishback's 1937 book ONE TO A CUSTOMER.  Even back them merchants felt the need of an early Christmas.  Hope you enjoy it!

LINES ON THOSE WHO GET THEIR CLAUS IN EARLY

List to the beating of their hearts,
The snapping of their arteries,
As in the eager retail marts
The merchants milk their Christmas trees.

Each year the season's earlier,
And I, a nature-loving dolt,
Am troubled lest the pine and fir
Shall lose their grip and start to molt

Before the Twenty-fifth is here.
For how can they survive December
When they were launched on their career
So prematurely, in November?

Eventually, I believe,
Our merchants, each an up-and-comer,
Will be promoting Christmas Eve,
In the preceding spring and summer.

Now come on folks, doesn't that say it all?  They felt the push of an early Christmas even in the 1930's!  Our Christmas push will be here in time for Thanksgiving.  That's when the town of Selma has asked their merchants to be ready by.

Selma for their
38th Annual Railroad Days this weekend.

We've been here for 14 years and each year the Saturday morning parade gets better and bigger!!

Lots of family activities, games rides, face painting along with crafters and antiques.  Hungry?  Wait until you see all the food vendors!

We open after the parade, usually by 11 a.m. and will stay open at least until 6 p.m., longer if the day is still busy.

We're NOT ..."One of THOSE"... Antique Shops

I heard that expression the other day and I have to say it applies to us beautifully.

Sure I'd like to sell the ten-thousand dollar corner cabinet but we are more comfortable with the everyday kitchen Hoosier or Barn Door (by the way we have both).  Like we said last week,
"We have JUNK for your TRUNK".

Fun and funky.  Trashy Treasures.  Comfortable finds.  We won't break your bank.  Come on out and have some fun!

Make A Fair Offer

We have a couple of LARGE pieces of furniture that have "Make a Fair Offer" sign on it.  That means what it says.  I can't take a dollar but if it's fair and reasonable, it's yours!

The first piece is a solid blind front corner cupboard - c - 1940 in Great shape!
7' tall by 3'8" wide

The second piece is newer and even larger and also in great shape.  It is in two pieces.
(thank goodness, it makes it easier to transport).
7'8" tall by 8'3" wide

Both pieces started out at $2,800.  Neither has a makers mark.  Both came out of estates in the Selma/Smithfield area.  Both sellers are motivated to move it!

If you are interested in either of these pieces give us a call or drop on by to view them.  We're open 7 days a week!

SEEKERS

Okay Folks…. I know TWO blogs in two days are more than I sometimes do for weeks but I just had to share the new booth with all of you.

At the very top of the third floor you’ll find the “SEEKERS” booth.  I mentioned them earlier.  They have now fully moved in.  You want it?  They’ll SEEK it!

(TWO, count them... TWO  stand up Radios!)

These new dealers spent the whole day in this muggy weather unloading, schlepping up stairs and setting up their new booth.

WOW!
Peachy pink full size iron bed with center medallion $200 SWEET!

So glad to have them on board here at Reid’s Country Sampler in Selma, NC.  I think I might have to spend some of my own money on a treat or two.  Love it!  Love it!  Love it!!!!!!

August

Well, you may be wondering "Where'd she go?"  The blogs have dwindled to almost nothing.

Daddy's passing took a lot out of us here at Reid's. We miss him greatly.  Thank you to all of you who have come by to give us condolences.  He loved his customers.  It's very comforting to know they remember him too.

So now I'm back at work and hopefully I'll make up for lost time in the blogging department.

We have new dealers up on the third floor setting up.  Looks Country Primitive with a Victorian flair.  Yummy!  Ask for booth "SEEKERS".

Leaving us after 10 years booth "W" is retiring from the Antique business to go hug some grandchildren.  How could I ever compete with a grandchild?
